Well I was born to two loving parents on May 17, 1978 in the city of Tarzana, a suburb of Los Angeles, CA. We quickly moved to Ladera Heights, which was the up and coming African-American neighborhood which was closer to the airport and where my father’s medical practice was. My sisters and I lived there, until we were about 6 and then we moved to Bel-Air, CA… the very rich and private community. I guess my parents were social climbers of a sort.

The Muppet Babies

I grew up watching the Muppet Babies and Fraggle rock on our TV downstairs, and I played with building blocks. There were times where my mom was certain I was going to be an architect when I grew up, I was always building big skyscrapers. Then came the day I was introduced to a computer, and it was all down hill from there.

After a while, I started school, and attended John Thomas Dye elementary school, from Kindergarten to 6th grade, where I went to school with the likes of the Spelling family and other celebrities’ children. Then I went to the Buckley School where I started to learn to excel at programming and building theater sets.

Then came my parents divorce and i subsequently got pulled out of private school and unceremoniously dumped into the Los Angeles Unified Public School System… which as anyone can tell you, is a dump. My education and programming talents stalled and I started to pursue more… shall we say, teenage pursuits.

I fell in and out of love, and spent much of my youth striving to figure out who I was and what I wanted with my life (who would’ve thought I’d never find the answer to that, even 20 years later!). Eventually I graduated with a degree and a full scholarship to NCCU, but I was ill prepared for the culture shock of going from big city life with lots of tolerance (even during the riots) to a culture of racism and mistrust in the South.

So I dropped outta school and started working as a computer programmer and repair specialist. That is until 9/11 when the company I was working for had the misfortune of having offices in the World Trade Center. The company promptly folded and took the insurance money and I decided it was time to go back to school.

I attended Wake Tech Community College for 3 years to earn my Associates Degree. After 9 years of living in North Carolina, I decided it was time for a change and moved to Columbus, OH to earn my Bachelor’s at the Ohio State University. I loved by Psychology and Computer Science, so I decided to pursue both degrees. I am now in my final year and after being in school my whole life, I’m ready to move on.
